Meet our General Manager He's represented Bay of Plenty U19 at golf, Midlands (Northern Districts) at cricket and King Country in rugby. Now he's representing Akarana to the rest of the golfing world. Steve Hackett, originally a Wanganui boy, came to Auckland via Hamilton & Taupo where he completed his four year Golf Course Management apprenticeship. He has been our Golf Course Superintendent since January 1996 and then moved to the role of General Manager/Course Manager in 2004 and has completed the certificate in Golf Club Management in 2005. Steve is married (to Belinda) and they have two children (Stevie and Carter).

Our Staff Peter Collins - Golf Manager “My name is Peter Collins. On Tuesday 15th May 2007, I proudly take up the position of Golf Manager at Akarana. Many of you will already know me through my previous involvement at Akarana. I have been a club member since the late 80’s and have had many years of Committee work , most recently as Vice Captain, as the immediate past Club Captain and a member of the inaugural Board at Akarana. I have also been a Pennant player and Pennant selector for the club. My work background has been in Sales and Marketing / Customer Service. I am delighted to have this opportunity, as part of a team, to help make your golf experience at the Club a memorable one, regardless of whether you are a first time visitor or a long standing Club Member. I look forward to meeting those of you I don’t already know.” Peter Hay-McKenzie - Teaching Professional Peter is one of our Golf Professionals. He possesses a dry wit and is THE master of an understatement. Peter is a former winner (2002) of the New Zealand PGA Seniors Championship at Wairakei, defeating David Good of Australia in a playoff. A member of the New Zealand PGA Peter is available for lessons throughout the week. Formerly a Priest, Peter remains a Celebrant, which means he can marry you, bury you or fix your golf swing!!. Hadyen McCallum Hayden has been a member of the club for 8 years, and a member of the staff for almost three.  He was the 2006 club champion and is a current Auckland representative.  Hayden joined the shop staff full time with the intention of pursuing a career in golf.  He is quickly learning the ropes under the guidance of the senior members of staff and has already become an expert at starting ladies golf. Georgina Anderson - Administration Georgina could be described as our juggler, having to deal with all the administrative challenges that a busy golf club can have. If you are appreciative of some good organisation at the club, you can bet Georgina had a hand in it! Adrienne Nelson - Bar Manager Adrienne has now started with the Club full time as Bar Manager and looks forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks. Adrienne comes to us from the Waitakere Trust where she was Bar Manager at the Main Street bar in Henderson. She holds a General Managers Certificate and amongst other qualifications has a National Certificate in Business Administration. Khalid - Caterer Ann Collins - Gardener Ann Collins is married to Peter (past Club Captain) and an active member of the Club. She has recently decided to make use of a couple of green thumbs and taken up the role of Garden maintenance. Ann has already made a visible difference to course presentation, so when you are next commenting how fantastic the gardens are looking its down to Ann. Back to top of page

The Board David Snow - President David joined the club in 2000 with the sole intention of improving his golf game. He plays as much golf as a busy family man and father of two young children can, which is probably more than he should. David is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and works in the business systems solutions sector. Neil Pritchard - Board Chairman Ivan Nola - Club Captain Kay Lum - Board Member Glen Ogilvie - Board Member Glen has been a member of Akarana since 2000. "Until I was approached 'to look at the Transit papers' I was happily playing golf. Involvement in that project lead to Course Committee, General Committee and last year Board Chairman.
