Finals day at The Akarana Golf Club
and, like 2006, the umbrellas were out in force.
In a repeat of last year’s finals the weather gods threw another wet day at the contestants and so matches were played in very difficult conditions. But the chance to get your name on the honours board is enough to make most forget about the weather and some good golfing skills were on display.
Our reporter turned up just in time to find senior champion Mark Pirihi phoning his agent with the result. Mark won his 5th senior title with some amazing putting and in the process making the final a bit of a one sided affair…….so what was happening in the other divisions??
By the 12th hole C-Grader John Dias was well up in his match and looking pretty pleased with himself.
His opponent Dermott Rodden was searching for some answers. Maybe a change of ball would help?
Conditions on the day meant it was lonely out there for the players.
In the Junior division Wayne Smith was busy trying to keep dry.
But the wind was saying otherwise.
Umbrella retrieved it was time to get on with winning

Normal service resumed
It was a good day for these guys
Alan Quek doing the umbrella under the ear while doing up the bag cover routine.
Club captain Ross Christian was rugged up in the support vehicle.
Keith Plows was handling the weather, his caddie was not so sure.
Meanwhile in the C-Grade final John Dias was a happy chappie closing his game out early and consigning Dermott to an early shower
But in the Junior match it was now down to final hole tactics.
In the Intermediate division Alan was in big trouble on the 18th and needing a miracle to survive.
Which didn’t happen leaving John Hyun to take out the most contested division in the Club.

Back on the 17th Keith Plows was congratulating Wayne Smith on his win.
And yes I was in the senior final. Where were you asks Daryl Kent!
Bringing up the rear of the field was the junior age group final with Seve Ha beating Oscar Sachs in a final that went all the way to the 17th.
That’s all folks. Well done to all finalists. See you again in 2008.
