April 2014
Hello everyone
Yes, it has been a long time between reads. Just when you think you have everything organised, a ‘blip' occurs which throws EVERYTHING out. So, treat this as an update to fill a reading gap.
Welcome - we have a few new ladies to our club and I'm very pleased to see you've given them each a good Akarana welcome and shown them to our various competitions. Thank you ladies.
Home Links competition is an annual event with strict qualifying, playing and timelines to adhere to. This year's club winners are:-
· Pam Briggs - Sue Bunt Salver with the lowest aggregate of two net scores 64.
· Lynnette Alack and Mandy Zimmerli - Coronation Medal AND Aotearoa Cup for both scoring net 71.
· Janet Boddy – Veterans Trophy – with a net score of 72
· Clare Shin – Best Gross Cup with a gross score of 81
· Norma Taylor and Shirley Shadbolt – Nancy MacCormick Memorial Foursomes with a combined net score, over two rounds of 148.
· Lynnette Alack 71, Mandy Zimmerli 71, Janet Boddy 72 and Susan Macken 72 – will be representing Akarana at the Nationals Team Day District Final on Thursday 15 May at Whitford Park.
Congratulations to all our winners and thank you ladies for encouraging us all to play well.
March LGU Silver winner Lynette Alack 71 and Bronze winner Heather Wray with 73.
March Shared putting competition on the front 9 holes - 15 Putts is a worthy effort by most standards, however, on competition day, it was 14 Putts that strutted away with the prize. Our 9 Hole ladies had 20 entries and started off the competition in fine spirits. Pam Briggs leading the way with 15 putts on the front 9 holes and adding some credit to her account. When our Weekday ladies arrived on the Tuesday, another 13 entries played for the 'purse'. It was a valiant 15 putts from Janet Boddy, Marlene Hansch and Merrill Hogben. Their prizes have been safely tucked into their accounts. The Weekend Ladies added 13 entries and the winners pulled out their putters 14 times in the front 9, those winners were Rachel Heatley, Aseri Meikle and Nga Naden. No their cheques are not in the post, they're in the Pro Shop. For everyone else, try again in April J We have added a few more $$'s to the carpet fund.
Pimms Cup – 62 years old and still shiny and in shape. This year's winners with a score of 88 stableford points over two rounds were our very own Barbara Benson-Cooper and Heather Wray on a countback from Dixie Horne and Trish Strand. Congratulations ladies.
Pennants – we have now completed our hosting responsibilities for each of our teams. The consensus is the muffins were delicious, the course was pretty, the greens were slick!!! “WE KNOW!!” We are now midway through the pennant season and it's still anyone's game. Take a peek at the club website for the ‘Magical in Magenta' pix of our 9 holers. Very sharp J
Charles Tour is HERE!!!and a lot of hands are on deck, BUT we could still do with a few more. Please contact our Pro shop if you're able to spare a few hours here, there and anywhere..
See you on the tee everyone
