Phil (or "Big Phil"
as he is affectionately known) has been a member at
Akarana for some time now and is an active participant
in just about all club events. This man is as keen
a golfer as you will get evidenced by the fact that
he is shortly to break the 400 round mark on the dot.golf
handicap.
Well done that man!
We asked Phil, the health insurance specialist, to
give us his own unique angle on one of the courses
tougher holes
- the par 4 15th.

Hole 15 Par 4 Stroke 3
'This is a nasty hole but one of my favourites'
claims the man with baseball sized grips on his golf clubs.
'Normally I'm getting a shot on this hole so there's always
something to play for. It's near the end of the round too
so it can be important in a match.' (As Phil himself will
arrest to in the 2003 Club Championship finals)

You need a good eye to read the subtleties of this two-tier
green |
'A good tee-shot is essential if you hope
to reach the green in two. Even then the tiered green and
double bunkers make any second a challenge. For the mid handicappers
my advice is to lay up short of the bunker if your GIR shot
is not an option. It's easier to get up and down from here
than risk a couple of attempts in what are scary sand-traps.
Good luck you'll probably need it.' |
