Akarana Golf Club
Hole of the Month - April 2004
Hole 8 · Par 3 · Stroke 10

Our Member Host
Ken Collins

Voted "most likely to be singing to himself during a round of golf" in the 2003 Akarana personalitiy awards, our member host of the month Ken Collins always has a friendly smile and a welcome comment. When we asked Ken to be our guest hole member, in his usual modest way he immediately said who, me?.

Ken's been around the course now for a number of years and seen many changes. He gives us his take on a new addition the Akarana layout, the par three eighth hole.

Part of the new course layout, the eighth hole is fast gaining a reputation
as a round wrecker.

"Smoke on the water....a fire in.....? (.....Ahh what a great song) just about sums up the eighth hole for me" says Ken Collins who is just as likely to be humming a Hello Sailor tune . All of the golf psycho heads (and they're Pennants players too) that I know (like Dave Izzard and Darren Gallot) get really worked up about this hole but I say "don't worry.....be happy". Take out your 5 wood (off the blues) and let it rip. I also find keeping my eyes closed helps though. Study the local rule on this hole warns Ken, it can work in your favour.

Water water everywhere.
Scary for most, expensive for others.

Take a moment to sit down
and think about your tee shot
